Design of Centralized Reactive Power Compensation Capacity of the Wind Farm

Abstract: Due to the great voltage fluctuation resulted from wind power intermittence, adequate reactive power compensation needs to be installed. At present the reactive power compensation calculation and analysis for the wind farm are rarely conducted, and the grid-connection design of wind farms is carried out in accordance with related guides. This paper presents the calculation and analysis method of the reactive power loss of the wind farm, and proves the effectiveness of the method through case study. It has some limitations to determine the reactive power compensation capacity of the wind farm according to related technical requirements.
