Abstract: In order to balance the search accuracy and efficiency, this paper proposed a new algorithm, which is based on vulnerable line identification results and operation status of power systems and is suitable for the rapid identification of serious fault paths. Firstly, the modified k-core method was introduced to rapidly recognize the vulnerable lines in power grid. Secondly, the cascading failure development in the direction that may lead to serious power losses was identified by specifying the first two cascading failure components as the vulnerable lines, so as to improve the efficiency of prediction. The case studies are carried out on the IEEE 39-bus test system to demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method.
