Abstract: The control strategy of automatic voltage, the communication between systems and the performance of single device affect the performance of the reactive power and voltage control of wind farms. Based on the actual operation data and field testing data of a ten-million-kilowatts wind power base in the past three years, the paper firstly analyzes the status of the wind farm automatic voltage control (AVC) system, and systematically introduces the current AVC system architecture and conventional control strategies; and then it clarifies the key factors affecting the wind farm AVC performance from the wind farm AVC process. Finally, some measures are proposed for improving the wind farm AVC performance and operation level, and are verified by case study.
