Analysis on an Abnormal Trip of a 330-MW Turbine Unit and the Improvement of Its ETS System

Abstract: Through the analysis on the abnormal trip process of a 330-MW turbine unit, the principle of the logic protection card (LPC) based emergency trip system (ETS) system is clarified, and the design defect of the inconsistency between the protection and the first-out is identified. In the absence of SOE records, through the first-out illusion, the data in trip process are analyzed. Combined with a series of EH oil system investigation and comparison test, the real reason of the ETS system action is explained reasonably. Meanwhile, detailed measures to improve the reliability of the ETS system are proposed from the aspects of design principles, protection failure prevention and important measurement improvement.
