Application and Prospect of Rejuvenation Technology of Water-Tree Aged XLPE Cables

Abstract: Water-tree rejuvenation technology provides a novel solution for aged XLPE cables. The paper introduces the current domestic and international applications as well as the future application prospect in China of this technology for rejuvenating the insulation of aged XLPE cables. The fluid composition, the injection technology and the monitoring method are summarized and the problems are pointed out that need to be solved. Based on a case study of cable rejuvenation, the rejuvenation effectiveness is analyzed, which shows that the insulation level of the rejuvenated cables is improved substantially in the short term. It can be concluded that this rejuvenation method is effective for rejuvenating the insulation of the aged cables.
