Abstract: In the period of 13th Five-Year(2016-2020) and the forthcoming future, China’s economy will be in a stage of“New Normal”. During this period, the energy supply-demand balance will experience a fundamental change, the institutions and mechanisms of marketization will become more and more perfect, and the development of China’s power industry will face new challenges. Based on the circumstance that the electricity supply will keep ample, the percentage of renewable generation will continue to rise and the market- oriented reforms will achieve breakthrough in the coming decades, this paper discusses the main problems encountered in the development and operation of power system and make a analysis of their causes in terms of the uncertainty of electricity supply-demand relation, the function of coal-fired power generation, integration of renewable energy, security and stability of power system, and electricity market operation. Finally some practical countermeasures are proposed.

Key words: power planning, power supply and demand, function of coal-fired power generation, integration of renewable energy, security and stability of power system, electricity market operation
