Abstract: In order to take full advantages of distributed power production and the technological and economic characteristics of ultracapacitor, this paper presents a DC micro-grid structure with two supply terminals. It describes functions and advantages of ultracapacitor energy storage system in DC a microgrid and selects different control methodologies according to the placement of ultracapacitor energy storage system. The power supply terminal uses voltage segment control and the load side being constant voltage control. A simulation model of DC micro-grid with an ultracapacitor energy storage is built based on MATLAB/simulink platform, and an analysis is carried out to analyze the impact of the location of ultracapacitor energy storage system on the power quality of a DC micro-grid. The simulation results show that the ultracapacitor energy storage system can effectively restrain the voltage fluctuation caused by the changes of light or load.
