Abstract: Site selection is often difficult for the 1 000 kV UHV AC substation due to its many-grouped reactive power on the low-voltage side of main transformer and the large space occupation. A solution to this problem is proposed in the paper to directly connect the reactive power compensators to the 500 kV busbar. Based on a comparative analysis of various wiring modes of reactive power compensation devices connected directly to 500 kV busbar and an investigation of the device supply ability, different layout schemes for the connection are studied and compared in terms of life cycle. The results show that the solution can not only improve the capacity of the capacitor and reactor, and reduce the floor space of the reactive power compensation equipment, but also save the energy.
