Abstract: The low frequency oscillation of the power system has occurred many times in China, which endangers the safe operation of the steam turbines. Based on the specific cases, the different reactions of the steam turbines during the low frequency oscillations of the power system are analyzed. It is pointed out that the low frequency oscillation of the power system is threatening the safe operation of the unit in two ways. One is the speed measurement and the other is the turbine valve opening fluctuation. Through the actual testing, it is observed that the control oil pressure of a unit declines continuously when the low frequency oscillation occurs. Taking China’s situations into account, it is suggested that measures should be taken to improve the anti-interference ability of the control oil system, and contingency plans should be made.
