Abstract: The air and flue gas system is an indispensable part of thermal power units. To improve the intelligence level of the thermal power units, the requirements on the intelligent control function module for the air and flue gas system is analyzed, and the functional groups consisting of intelligent startup, operation and shutdown as well as other functional subgroups are designed. Modular design is adopted for each functional group and subgroup , which could be adapted to various operating conditions, such as normal, maintenance, or failure conditions. Manual control is set to be higher priority in case of an emergency. The simulation and application results show that without any manual intervention, by utilizing the intelligent control function module the entire process of startup, operation and shutdown of the air and flue gas system can be controlled automatically and the related important parameters such as furnace pressure are also controlled smoothly. In addition, it can improve the security level of the thermal power units and relieve the labor intensity of operators.
