Abstract: With the large-scale development of such clean energies as wind power and hydropower in China and the rapid construction of UHV projects, the inter-provincial electricity transactions are becoming more frequent with transaction volume increasing year by year. Large-scale out-of-area electricity increases the pressure for the receiving-end power grid to shave peak and reserve power, but it is not involved in the current assessment and compensation system of the ancillary market. Firstly, the power source and load characteristics of the central China power grid (CCPG) are introduced in this paper, and then the status quo of its inter-regional power transaction is analyzed. Secondly, a mechanism is proposed for the inter-regional power transaction to participate in CCPG peak shaving and reserve ancillary service. Finally, according to the proposed mechanism, the influences of the high-voltage DC transmission lines on the peak shaving and reserve ancillary service in CCPG are computed. The model proposed in this paper is conducive to the establishment of sharing mechanism of inter-regional ancillary services, subsequently alleviating the peak shaving pressure of the thermal power units in CCPG and promoting the consumption of clean energy transmitted from the northwest and other areas to CCPG.
