Abstract: In order to study the effect of auxiliary ground wires in high-voltage cables, single-circuit power cables and double-circuit power cables with or without an auxiliary ground wire are modeled by ATP-EMTP simulation software under the conditions of typical laying mode, normal operating current and single phase short circuit current. According to requirements of regulations, the effect of an auxiliary ground wire to inhibit induced voltage is analyzed under the conditions of normal operation and single phase short circuit. The feasibility of double circuits sharing an auxiliary ground wire and taking metal sheath of parallel cables as auxiliary ground wires is studied. Suggestion is given to auxiliary ground wire laying to reduce power loss when normally operating.
