Abstract: Currently, series capacitors as a series compensation device run unsteadily, which leads faults happen frequently. According to the parallel capacitor test standard, many tests are carried out such as the partial discharge test, the dielectric loss test, AC withstand voltage test, which can't fully reflect the quality of the capacitor. In order to the inspection of the series capacitor overload capacity, it is necessary to simulate series compensation capacitor short-time over voltage condition when short circuit fault happens. After the analysis of the various solutions, it ensures the use of parallel resonant energy storage test loop. Finally it clears about the influence of various parameters in the test loop on the test results by means of the simulation and puts forward the optimal parameter collocation scheme, which provides qualitative theory guidance for the specific tests in the next step.
