Abstract: A video and image identification management system for transmission lines is developed and implemented in this paper. The system has three modules, including remote monitoring module, fault identification module and information management module. The image processing technology is used in the fault identification module to realize two functions of ice thickness calculation and conductor galloping amplitude calculation. Different functions work in a coordinated way according to the identified faults. The information management module, which is based on the database, can manage the device information, alarm information and micro-meteorological information as well as identification results. In addition, the system sets certain micro-meteorological parameters as conditions to call the identification subprogram. Once the micro-meteorological conditions of the monitored sites reach the conditions, the identification program will be started, greatly improving the reliability and efficiency of the system.
