Abstract: The eastern China is short in local energy supply with serious environmental pollution. Generally, the nuclear power generation works at base load, which needs in-depth study about its planning and influence on the power system’s peak load regulation. In this paper, the principles and methods for the planning of nuclear power generation are proposed. Based on the object of minimizing the total system cost of power supply with the requirement of the power system’s construction and operation and the balance of power and energy in consideration, the total scale and structure of the power sources including the scale of nuclear power are studied. Furthermore, considering the progress of preliminary work and the ability of peak load regulation, the capacity of nuclear power is recommended for the area and the environmental benefit estimated. The study can provide guidance for the development of nuclear power generation in eastern China.
