Abstract: The advanced European pressurized water reactor (EPR) technology is adopted by a domestic nuclear power plant. However, due to the difference of site condition, the water intake and drainage scheme with seawater pool in closed circulation is adopted in the design of the heat sink for emergency conditions, which is different from that of the reference power plant. According to the principles of EPR safety classification and the idea of classifying items based on their functions, the pump tripping function of the circulating water system (CRF) and auxiliary cooling water system(SEN) are classified both in functions and equipments. The associated safety requirements are also proposed. The analysis shows that the safety classification of the original design shall be improved to ensure the safe operation of the nuclear power plant.
