Abstract: Aimsat the problem of Sub-synchronous resonance(oscillation) caused by series compensated transmission of power system, based on the standard IEEE sub-synchronous resonance test systems, The inhibitory effect of TCSC and SVC was researched exhaustive and thorough by test signal method and time domain simulation method. The research shows: TCSC and SVC both can effectively inhibit the sub-synchronous resonance, but because they belong to the series and parallel devices, so the own characteristics are different. When in the same capacity case, the inhibitory effect of TCSC was better than SVC as well as the enhance capabilities of electrical damping; in the same inhibitory effect case, the capacity of TCSC was required less than SVC; however, the investment was higher. The harmonics that injected into grid by TCSC and SVC were both odd harmonics, and the 3,5,7 times were main component. The latter part of the operation and maintenance was in a high degree of automation and targeted maintenance should be set based on the weak link of the device.
