Optimized Condition Based Maintenance for Gearbox of Wind Turbine Based on Time-delay

Abstract: Wind turbine always runs in harsh environments. Failure happens frequently, especially in gearbox, which may result in high maintenance costs for wind farm. In view of the above problems, an optimized condition based maintenance strategy based on time-delay is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the proportional hazards function and reliability function are determined based on time-delay by utilizing failure data and monitoring data of vibration signals. Then the optimized condition based maintenance threshold is obtained by minimizing the long-run expected cost rate. Finally, condition based maintenance action is implemented according to this threshold. Through the simulation of a certain wind farm, The optimal threshold and maintenance strategy are obtained. The simulation result has verified the effectiveness of the strategy in avoiding excessive and insufficient maintenance and saving maintenance costs.
