Abstract: A fault line selection method of small current to ground system was proposed in the essay. Firstly, Prony algorithm was used to fit the transient zero-sequence current signal in the first T/4 cycle after fault occurs; secondly, transient dominant components with fault features were selected based on the principle of maximum energy; lastly, the voting mechanism which combines the preliminary vote with the k value checking was used to vote the Prony relative entropy value. It is proved that this method can not only accurately detect the fault line but also improve the reliability of the results in fault line selection.
