Improved Method for Shielding Failure Trip-Out Rate Calculation for EHV/UHV Power Transmission Lines

Abstract: In this paper, based on the structural characteristics of extra and ultra high voltage towers, the traditional electrical geometric model (EGM) is upgraded with the concept of striking distance correction factor being presented, which can make the model accord with the extra and ultra high voltage towers better. The improved electrical distance calculation method for solving the maximum striking distance of EGM is proposed from the perspective of geometry and is applied to the calculation of shielding failure trip-out rate for extra and ultra high voltage lines. The calculation results indicate that the improved calculation method is more accurate and reliable than the traditional one.
