Abstract: Measurement of lightning current characteristic parameters are very important for study of lightning process and protection. An on-line monitoring system for multi-channel lightning current is developed in this paper. A flexible Rogowski coil lightning current sensor is designed to convert high lightning flow to low voltage signal by electromagnetic coupling. A high-speed data acquisition and processing unit is used to acquire voltage signal to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the signal. The wireless data transmission is based on GPRS. The expert analysis system, which is remotely controlled on the purpose of stable operation, is used for analysis and processing of the received lightning current waveform signal. The system has been implemented in the 500 kV Shenbao Ⅰ-Ⅱ and Taishan Ⅰ-Ⅱ transmission lines, in which a lightning current waveform was successfully caught on June 25, 2013 and its characteristic parameters were monitored and the lightning current waveform data were recorded, which can provide the basic data for lightning current comparison and simulation inversion.
