Abstract: The mode of boiler feed-water pump adopting main turbine drive is introduced and discussed, and the technical and economic performance is compared between the feed-water pumps adopting main turbine drive and small turbine drive for 1 000-MW ultra-supercritical wet cooling units. The results show that it is feasible from the technical point that main turbine drive is adopted by feed-water pumps. For 1 000-MW ultra-supercritical wet cooling power units, the thermal economics of main turbine drive is better than that of small turbine drive. Although the initial cost of main turbine drive is higher than that of small turbine drive, it could be recovered through the accumulated savings in operating costs over the twenty-year life cycle of the power plant. With the reduction of coal resources, the advantages of main turbine drive for boiler feed-water pumps could become more and more significant.
