Abstract: In this paper, the analysis on the characteristics of large turbo-generator structural vibrations is conducted. Taking account of the structural and installation characteristics, it is concluded that the deterioration of the generator supporting stiffness is the major cause contributing to the structural vibration. Therefore, preventive measures are proposed to eliminate or alleviate the vibrations, such as adjusting the foundation bolts, increasing the weights on the generator stator, optimizing the installation of the generator stator and tuning dynamic balancing on the spot. Meanwhile, corresponding case studies are presented to demonstrate the troubleshooting technique.
