Abstract: Based on the detailed digital simulation models of Niucong and Puqiao HVDC systems, this paper studies the low order harmonic stability under islanded operation condition. Firstly, the ac parallel impedance and dc loop impedance of the HVDC systems are calculated with the test signal method. Then, the low order harmonic stability of the HVDC is roughly checked by analyzing the ac parallel impedance and dc loop impedance under low order harmonic frequencies. Finally, the low order harmonic stability is verified by time domain simulation. The result shows that under islanded operation condition, the harmonic impedance of the HVDC system is slightly influenced by the short circuit ration of the connected ac system. Additionally, the HVDC systems don`t have the low order harmonic instability problems under the concerned operation conditions.
