Abstract: The government is being more strict on environment protection and in some of the primary air pollution prevention and control areas, the local government and the power generation groups have already launched pilot projects of flue gas ultra-low emission to meet the emission requirements by Emission Standard of Air Pollutants for Thermal Power Plants(GB13223-2011), of which the SO2 emission limit is 35 mg/m3 in the standard state. Based on the current development of desulphurization technologies and the case analysis and studies on the modification schemes of ultra-low SO2 emission from coal-fired units adopting wet limestone/gypsum FGD, the successful applications of different scenarios are presented, and the modification proposals for units using coals of different sulphur contents are suggested.

Key words: FGD system, wet limestone/gypsum method, ultra-low SO2 emission, modification route
