Abstract: In order to study the risks of main natural disasters in power network and the corresponding prevention strategies, the general situation of natural disasters in power network in China is analyzed according to the failure statistics of high voltage power networks. Based on the spatial-temporal distribution characteristics of natural disasters and their damage on the power network, it is concluded that the main safety risks of the high-voltage network in China are large-area icing accident, large-scale pollution flashover and large-scale ice coating galloping. And the main way for improving the anti disaster ability of power networks is to increase the design standards and make differential designs with a comprehensive consideration of the spatial-temporal distribution and frequency of disasters, as well as the importance of transmission lines.
