Abstract: Frequency diversity can be exploited for performance improvement of symbol detection. However, there is no frequency diversity gain in traditional OFDM system. Therefore, a block spread OFDM system was designed for the frequency selective fading channel, in which a spread transform on the information block was performed at the transmitter. Moreover, a least squares (LS) based channel estimation and minimum mean squares error(MMSE) based symbol detection scheme were proposed for the receiver. Simulation results corroborate the validity of the channel estimation and symbol detection scheme, and the symbol detection performance is effectively improved by the spread transform.
