Abstract: Deep peak regulation of thermal power units is an effective way for renewable energy penetration. Considering the rising coal price, a comprehensive cost model of power generation is established to study the economy of thermal power units participating in peak regulation. The cost of power generation under peak shaving condition is analyzed considering fuel consumption, investment and operation fees, life expenditure and environmental compensation. The model is extended as a benefit analysis model for peak shaving operation by coupling with peak shaving compensation policy. The peak shaving benefits of case study under different loads and coal prices are analyzed by calculating the comprehensive cost of power generation. Moreover, compensation quotation strategies are obtained with different peak shaving benefits.
