Abstract: With consideration of the impact corona and the earth impedance caused by skin effects, the attenuation and distortion problem of lightning overvoltage along the overhead lines is studied in this paper. The impact corona and the earth impedance are firstly discretized and linearized, and then the corresponding parameters are calculated. This calculation method is not only simple in algorithm, but also applicable to engineering practice. In the end, a transmission line model is established with PSCAD software. Through modeling the lightning current hitting on the tower top and the resulted back-flashover, the lightning surge waves were measured at the same point under different conditions for comparison and the lightning withstand level was also measured. This modeling method can reflect the effects of corona and skin effects on wave accurately and intuitively and can be a good reference for system design and engineering practice.
