Newton-ADMM-based coordinated dispatch of distributed resources in distribution networks

  • The peak electricity consumption of thermostatically controlled loads (TCLs) often coincides with that of the power distribution networks. Utilizing the thermal energy storage characteristics and controllability of TCLs to formulate flexible regulation strategies can effectively reduce the peak load of distribution networks. Therefore, this paper proposes a coordinated regulation method for distributed resources in the distribution networks. Firstly, considering the thermal comfort of TCL users, a collaborative regulation framework between the distribution system operator (DSO) and local users is established with the objectives of minimizing the users’ thermal comfort deviation and electricity costs. Through a series of derivations, the problem is transformed into a standard convex quadratic programming problem in a compact form. Secondly, based on the Hessian matrix of the objective function, a Newtonized Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (Newton-ADMM) with excellent convergence performance is developed by improving the standard ADMM framework. Finally, the proposed Newton-ADMM is employed to solve the distributed resource regulation problem. Simulation analysis on a modified IEEE 123-node unbalanced distribution network verifies the effectiveness of the strategy, as well as the accuracy and convergence performance of the algorithm.
