Abstract: Wind power generation, which is one of the important technologies to achieve energy structure adjustment, energy saving and emission reduction, can make effective utilization of the wind power. However, the operation of wind turbine may have impacts on natural atmospheric circulation. The existing researches about potential climatic effect of wind farms are firstly reviewed. Then, some physical parameters of the environment related to climate, which may be affected by the wind farms, including surface roughness, turbulent heat transport near surface and height of atmospheric boundary layer are concretely analyzed. The result illustrates that large scale wind farm may have potential impact on the local climate.

Key words: wind power generation, climate effects, energy saving and emission reduction, large scale wind farms
